Are you tired of the way braces can make your teeth sore and sensitive? If so, our Schouten Orthodontics team is more than happy to help you by giving you the tips you need!

After your tightening appointments, Dr. John R. Schouten and our team recommend doing the following things to relieve the pain and discomfort you feel:

-Rinse your mouth with warm water as often as needed. The warmth should relieve some of your soreness.

-Only eat soft foods for the first few days following your appointment. If you eat hard foods, you will only make the discomfort worse.

-Take pain medication as needed. Feel free to take Tylenol or Advil—just make sure to follow the instructions on the bottle.

-Try to use your teeth as much as possible by chewing often. Chewing might make your teeth sore now, but it will make you feel better faster.

-If your pain has not subsided after three days, it’s best to call our office and schedule an appointment with your orthodontist.

If you use these tips, you will feel comfortable in no time and you will finally have the best orthodontic experience possible.
